Lactarius affinis Pk. Cap 8-10cm across, convex with a depressed disc; pale ochre to yellow to pinkish cinnamon; smooth and sticky. Gills decurrent or nearly adnate, quite broad; whitish tinged with yellow. Stem 25-80 x 1424mm, stuffed then hollow; same color as cap; smooth. Flesh firm to soft; white. Latex milk-white, unchanging, not staining. Taste acrid. Spores ellipsoid, amyloid, 8-10 x 7.1-7.7µ; ornamented with a partial or broken reticulum, prominences 0.5-1p, high. Deposit white. Habitat scattered or in groups in pastures or mixed woods and under conifers. Widely distributed in northeastern North America. Season July-October. Not edible |
